Flu shots only cover a percentage of strains of influenza that circulate every year and you are pretty much guaranteed to catch a cold at some point or another. You can’t avoid the fact that you are going to become ill. Here is a garlic soup recipe that is not only delicious, but also helps kick influenza during the cold flu season.
How can this soup help you at killing colds? It’s all about the garlic. It’s an amazing vegetable that contains a chemical called allicin. Many studies have found that it is 1000 times more effective than popular and modern antibiotics that fight common bacteria.
So how do we make this awesome soup? Here’s what you’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons of virgin olive oil
- 2 tablespoons of organic, grass-fed butter
- 1/2 cup of coconut milk
- 2 and a quarter cups of sliced organic onions
- 4 cups of organic vegetable broth
- 1/2 a cup of fresh organic ginger
- 26 more cloves of peeled organic garlic cloves
- 1 and a half teaspoons of fresh chopped thyme
- 26 unpeeled organic garlic cloves
- 1/2 a teaspoon of cayenne powder
Here is how to prepare the garlic soup:
First, you should reheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Place the 26 unpeeled cloves in a small glass baking dish and add the olive oil. After that, cover and bake until the garlic is golden brown, which is about 40 to 45 minutes. Allow the mix to cool, and squeeze the garlic in your palm to release the cloves. Take a butter and melt it in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onions, ginger, thyme and cayenne powder by your choice and cook until onions are translucent. Then, add the roasted garlic and unroasted cloves and cook that for 3 minutes. You can add some vegetables if you want. Cover and simmer until garlic is tender, about 20 minutes, and after that you can puree the soup in a blender until smooth.
