In this article, you will learn how to make a hot chocolate for yourself, or as a gift to give away during the holidays

Hot chocolate made by yourself – sounds perfect? A holiday cup full of joy.

These days hot chocolate mixes in the coffee shops are full of sugar and other ingredients that we should avoid. Once again, the conclusion – DO IT YOURSELF – comes true.

This mix came as an idea for a gift which was as creative as it was easy to make. There are lots of hot chocolate recipes, but almost all of them came with sugar, marshmallows etc. To avoid the tons of these calories, use ingredients that are actually good.

CACAO

The main ingredient of this hot chocolate recipe is the cacao, both powder and butter. Cacao as we know is the food of the gods, with countless health benefits.

Antidepressant properties

Cacao contains the substance, phenethylamine, a neurotransmitter in the brain that acts as a natural antidepressant and mood elevator. This natural remedy boosts the amount of endorphins in the body, which is the same feeling you get after  working out, laughing, or having sex. It boosts serotonin, which is an antidepressant and whose target is to increase overall happiness levels.

Antioxidants

Cacao contains a great amount of flavonoids which is powerful as antioxidant. (Polyphenols) Hot cacao contains antioxidants even more than a serving of red wine or tea. Just avoid commercial cocoa powders, because the antioxidants are removed because of their bitter taste.

Ingredients

3 tablespoons cacao powder

1 ounce cacao butter, finely chopped

3 tablespoons coconut sugar

¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

1 cinnamon stick

1 one cup mason jar

2 cups of water and 1 cup coconut milk

Layer each of the dry ingredients inside the mason jar. Start with the cacao powder, then the coconut sugar, cacao butter, and tap it off with the ground nutmeg. Seal it up, and wrap the cinnamon stick. If it is for a gift, you can add a ribbon and a note.

Add 2 cups of water and 1 cup of coconut milk. Let it simmer. When it is warmed through, add the ingredients in and whisk until it is homogeneous.
