People who buy organic honey, always have the question in their mind, is that honey real or fake? If you want to find out if the honey is real of not, you have to check its purity. In this article, we are going to show you, how to do a simple test at home and find out the truth.
Why’s industrial honey not healthy?
The honey loses its quality and nutrients during the manufacturing process. The honey industry uses ultrafiltration methods in order to prevent the tracing of the geo source of the honey. According to Professor Vaughn Bryant, 75% of the honey in the markets doesn’t contain pollen. The following tips are going to help you, to figure out which honey is real, and which one is industrial.
What is fake honey?
Additives as sugar syrups, molasses, corn syrup and other flavors are added in industrial honey, which is also known as adulterated impure or artificial honey. GHgeochem has run some test which showed: “If pure honey has been adulterated with corn syrup, the isotope ratio will fall some way between the two values and hence adulterated will have been proved.” According to this, the most of the “pure honey” you buy contain corn syrup.
What is pure honey?
The honey which is not produced in factories, is organic honey. You can not easy find real organic honey on the market.
Checking the honey purity at home
The producers use ground chalk, flour, sawdust and sand to make the honey thicker. Find out how to check the purity of honey:
The thumb test
Put some honey on your thumb and check if it sticks or spills-the real honey should be sticky.
The water test
Fill an empty glass with water, and after that add a tablespoon of honey. The real honey drops to the bottom, and fake honey is dissolved fast.
Real honey is flammable!
Place a dry match in the honey, and try to light it. If the match is lightening up easily, the honey is real as the real honey is flammable. The honey is not pure if the match can’t burn and contains impurities and water.
Try to add also 2-3 drops of vinegar in small amount of honey, if foam appears, than the honey is industrial.
