What is fake honey?

Additives as sugar syrups, molasses, corn syrup and other flavors are added in industrial honey, which is also known as adulterated impure or artificial honey. The honey which is not produced in factories, is organic honey. You can not easy find real organic honey on the market.

Checking the honey purity at home

The producers use ground chalk, flour, sawdust and sand to make the honey thicker. Find out how to check the purity of honey:

The thumb test

Put some honey on your thumb and check if it sticks or spills-the real honey should be sticky.

The water test

Fill an empty glass with water, and after that add a tablespoon of honey. The real honey drops to the bottom, and fake honey is dissolved fast.

Real honey is flammable!

Place a dry match in the honey, and try to light it. If the match is lightening up easily, the honey is real as the real honey is flammable. The honey is not pure if the match can’t burn and contains impurities and water.

Try to add also 2-3 drops of vinegar in small amount of honey, if foam appears, than the honey is industrial.
